How Our Independent Ownership Benefits You
Which would you prefer: Working closely with your physician to craft a health care plan for you, or working with a physician who also has to answer to a large corporation?
Independent orthopedic practices, such as the Bone and Joint Surgery Clinic, are becoming more uncommon. It might surprise you to learn that a little over 77% of physicians are no longer in private practice– they now work for large corporate entities or hospitals/healthcare systems, according to the Physicians Advocacy Institute. In addition, over half of physician practices are now owned by corporations or large hospital health systems.
Because we’re an independent orthopedic practice, our patients have a wide range of choices. Our surgeons are affiliated with five local hospitals and several outpatient surgery centers. This means you can decide where you get your care. Because we’re independently owned, we aren’t obligated to send you to a specific hospital or outpatient center. We don’t have to ask permission from some massive corporation; instead, we’ll work together to determine the best option for you.
We’ll take a closer look at how our independent ownership benefits you, and why we’re proud to be a member of this community for more than 50 years.
4 Ways Being an Independently Owned Practice Benefits Patients
1. We Have the Freedom to Make the Best Decisions About Your Care
Some corporate-owned practices may be required to send you to a specific hospital or only allow certain practice policies. It means doctors can be trapped by bureaucracy dictated by someone in an office, not someone in healthcare.
Since we’re independently owned, we can tailor our policies and how we implement them to the best interest of our patients. We don’t answer to a faceless company. Our primary obligation is, and always will be, our patients.
2. We Offer More Personalized Care
You deserve uninterrupted time with your provider. However, it can be difficult to have extended quality time when your doctor has to “jump through administrative hoops.” The many administrative layers in large corporate practices can make it difficult to provide more patient-centered care.
3. We Have the Ability to Offer What the Community Needs
If we see a need for a particular service in the community, we can easily offer that—without having to make extensive proposals that would be more common in a larger, corporate-based environment. By being independently owned, we can keep in touch with the pulse of the community, enabling us to best serve the needs of residents in Raleigh and the surrounding areas.
4. Your Choice of Outpatient Facilities: We Aren’t Bound to One Medical Center
Practices tied to one medical center or owned by a corporation are obligated to send patients to a specific hospital or outpatient facility.
Where you have your procedure matters, and there are several factors to consider when deciding where to have your surgery. We will work with you to determine which one is most convenient and appropriate for your needs.
That means you have your choice of outpatient facilities because we are an independent orthopedic practice. In fact, we’re affiliated with five hospitals and outpatient centers throughout Raleigh.
